Check out the latest in aging advances, research, and events happening at NIA:
- New report on indicators of well-being among older Americans — Federal agencies, including NIA, identified and updated 40 indicators of well-being in the areas of population, economics, health status, health risks and behaviors, health care, and environment.
- Sleep disturbances linked to abnormal deposits of certain proteins in the brain — Two recent NIA-supported studies found abnormal deposits of certain proteins in the brains of individuals with a history of sleep disturbances. These findings highlight the importance of sleep in healthy aging.
- Census Bureau releases new report on commuting patterns of older workers — This report, supported in part by NIA, provides data examining the way older adults commute to work.
- NIA Director’s Regional Meeting 2020 — Register for this virtual meeting to learn about research and training opportunities for early-career and underrepresented researchers in aging. The meeting will be held on December 7, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST.
- Different forms of tau protein may relate to how fast dementia worsens — An NIA-funded study suggests that tau protein, mainly found in brain cells, can differ among people with Alzheimer’s disease and may be linked to how fast the disease worsens over time.
- Microglia, the brain’s trash collector cells, may reveal clues to disease treatments — Research findings from a new study in mice, funded in part by NIA, adds to the evidence of microglia’s role in brain health and could provide clues to new treatment targets for Alzheimer’s disease.
