|Sometimes you can no longer care for a person with Alzheimer’s disease at home. Choosing a long-term residential facility may seem overwhelming. Here are some steps you can take to make your search easier:
- Decide what care option might work best for you and your family member. Options include continuing care retirement communities, assisted living facilities, group homes and nursing homes.
- Gather information from doctors, social workers and/or your personal network about different facilities.
- Visit facilities several times to get a sense of what it’s like at different times of day. Ask the staff questions about activities, staff training and special care provided for people with Alzheimer’s.
