Sometimes you can no longer care for a person with Alzheimer’s disease at home. Choosing a long-term residential facility may seem overwhelming. Here are some steps you can take to make your search easier:
Decide what care option might work best for you and your family member. Options include continuing care retirement communities, assisted living facilities, group homes and nursing homes.
Gather information from doctors, social workers and/or your personal network about different facilities.
Visit facilities several times to get a sense of what it’s like at different times of day. Ask the staff questions about activities, staff training and special care provided for people with Alzheimer’s.
