Medicare Open Enrollment for 2023 closed on December 7, 2022. Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps pay some medical costs for people age 65 and older, and for people younger than age 65 with certain disabilities and serious health conditions. Medicare has different parts that help cover specific services, such as those listed below.
Medicare Part A: Hospital Insurance
- Inpatient care in hospitals after you pay a certain amount, called a “deductible”
- Skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care
Medicare Part B: Medical Insurance
- Doctor’s services, outpatient care, mental health services, and other medical services after you meet your yearly deductible
- Many preventive services, such as flu shots and diabetes screening
Medicare Part D: Drug Coverage
- Some prescription medication costs
Medicare Advantage is another option for obtaining Part A and Part B coverage.
