Sleep Tips for People Living with Dementia

Dementia can cause your sleeping habits to change. You may sleep too much or not enough, and it can also cause you to wake up several times during the night. Poor sleep quality can make dementia symptoms worse. However, there are things you can do to improve your sleep. You can:

  • Follow a regular schedule by going to sleep and getting up at the same time each day.
  • Develop a bedtime routine with dimmed lights, cool temperature, and no electronic screens.
  • Avoid caffeine and naps late in the day.
  • Talk to your doctor if you’re having problems sleeping.
