Description:  The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) collaborated with Dementia Friendly America and Dementia Friendly Prince George’s County, Maryland to conduct a Dementia, Caregiving and Transportation Forum in December 2017. The Forum was designed to identify challenges and opportunities related to transportation needs of individuals with dementia and their care partners. A secondary purpose was to serve as a model for other communities who may want to explore transportation issues in their own locales. The webinar is intended to showcase a particular community’s approach to bringing together dementia and caregiving groups on the one hand, and transportation providers on the other, for information exchange and dialogue as a template for other communities.

Attendees will learn about how national initiatives, specifically the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center and Dementia Friendly America, and the Administration for Community Living are working to address transportation, dementia and caregiving – including the nexus of all three issues. Attendees will also learn about Prince George’s County, Maryland’s specific work in this area, including specific lessons learned and takeaways from their community forum. Attendees will learn about Prince George’s County, Maryland’s lessons learned and takeaways from their community forum, as well as policies and practices used by Arlington Virginia Public Transit to ensure safe travel for vulnerable riders. The webinar will also feature national initiatives, specifically NADTC, Dementia Friendly America, and the Administration for Community Living.
