Dementia Friendly America (DFA), Community Partner
Dementia Friendly America logoDementia Friendly America (DFA) is a multi-sector, national collaborative of cross-sector organizations and individuals seeking to foster communities across the U.S. that are equipped to support people living with dementia and their caregivers. Dementia friendly communities foster the ability of people living with dementia to remain in the community and engage and thrive in day to day living; basic things like going to the store or the bank. The community also buoys the caregiver by adding extra supports such as respite programs. Every part of the community has a unique role in fostering meaningful access to and engagement in community life for people living with dementia and their family and friend care partners.

To help communities work towards becoming dementia friendly, DFA offers technical assistance, including sector-specific guidance and best practices synthesized from across the world. DFA is also working to implement an evaluation design that will measure the impact of dementia friendly practices on communities, systems and, most importantly, people living with dementia and their care partners.

Dementia Friends USA logoDFA has joined a global Dementia Friends community and will serve as the administrator for Dementia Friends USA. The Dementia Friends program is designed to raise awareness about dementia and educate individuals and community sectors about how they can best support and interact with people living with dementia. The program accomplishes this via an online training that involves watching a series of short videos and committing to take action. For more information visit DementiaFriendsUSA.org.
