Caregiving

Adjusting to caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s disease is a slow process. As Alzheimer’s disease typically does not progress quickly there can be time to adjust. It often takes the person with Alzheimer’s disease time to change and the same is true for the caregiver. One caregiver from the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center’s support group for younger onset Alzheimer’s disease, said that he felt caregiving was always responding to a change.

It is not always possible to plan and know what might be coming next. What is needed can change over time but hearing from others and knowing the general steps can be helpful.
