The healthy human brain contains billions of specialized cells that process and transmit information through electrical and chemical signals. These cells, called neurons, send messages among different parts of the brain and to the muscles and organs of the body.

Alzheimer’s disease disrupts communication between neurons, resulting in the loss of function and cell death. This could lead to impaired decision-making, language problems, and memory loss. Scientists are currently working on promising approaches to treat and prevent this disease.
