What Do We Know About Healthy Aging?

Many factors influence healthy aging. Some of these, such as genetics, are not in our control. Taking care of your physical health can support healthy aging, so consider taking these steps:

Make smart food choices. Start with small changes like adding more fish, fresh produce, whole grains, and healthy fats to your diet.
Stay active. Try being active in short spurts throughout the day or set aside specific times each week to exercise. Even everyday activities like gardening or household chores can help you stay active!
Get a good night’s sleep. Keep a regular sleep schedule and avoid napping during the day. Some studies suggest mindfulness meditation could improve sleep quality.
Quit smoking. Even if you’re 60 or older and have smoked for decades, quitting will improve your health. It’s never too late to stop smoking and start to breathe easier, have more energy, and save money!
