Four Ways to Support Healthy Aging

If you have elderly family members or friends, you may worry about their health. Aging increases the risk of chronic diseases, but healthy habits can help older adults live independently and maintain their quality of life. Help your loved one with these four tips:

  • Prevent social isolation and loneliness. Schedule daily, weekly, or biweekly phone or video calls.
  • Aim for a mix of endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility exercises. Try to get active in a variety of ways like walking, dancing, standing on one foot, or stretching.
  • Encourage healthy eating. Make a healthy meal together once or twice a week.
  • Schedule regular checkups with a doctor. Encourage your loved one to reach out to their doctor immediately if they’re experiencing pain or new symptoms.
