Illinois Senate Passes Bill to Assign IDPH Dementia Coordinator

The Alzheimer’s Association – Illinois Chapter, recently announced the passing of Senate Bill 1726. This Bill will establish a full-time position at the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) with the title Dementia Coordinator. This position would be responsible for implementation of, and updates to, the Illinois Alzheimer’s Disease State Plan, which is drafted and submitted by IDPH. The plan includes both short and long-term recommendations centered around increasing quality of life for Illinoisans with dementia and how best to ready our state’s healthcare delivery system to adequately care for this population.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that there are 230,000 Illinois residents living with Alzheimer’s disease.
