Dementia Friendly Efforts
The Vandalia Dementia Friendly Task Force represents a broad range of community members. The Task Force is comprised of people from the Midland Area Agency on Aging, the CEFS Community Action Agency, a faith-based community, the Alzheimer’s Association, a local hospital, the Center for Senior Renewal, the SWAN Agency, the local sheriff, City Manager, Police Chief, the Fayette County Health Department and a caregiver. Many of the task force members work with people who have dementia and will include their voice in the Dementia Friendly efforts. Also, several people in the task force have become a Dementia Champion. The Midland Area Agency on Aging has been instrumental in assisting several communities to receive national Dementia Friendly recognition.
The Vandalia Dementia Friendly Community Task Force plans to meet quarterly and hold an annual health and resource fair. They plan to offer sector training for different businesses and provide information on Dementia Friends to the chamber of commerce.
By becoming a Dementia Friendly community, the Vandalia Task Force plans to raise awareness, reduce stigma, provide resources and increase support for those living with dementia in their community.
