O’Fallon/Shiloh

Dementia Friendly O’Fallon and Shiloh, spearheaded by the O’Fallon/Shiloh Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with AgeSmart Community Resources, is a transformative community initiative driven by a dynamic, 20-member action team representing diverse sectors, such as government, community-based organizations, individuals living with dementia, healthcare providers, and law enforcement. This pioneering program, rooted in the values of compassion and inclusion, seeks to cultivate an environment where the community not only comprehends dementia but also knows how to provide unwavering support to those living with this condition. In its initial phase, the project will concentrate on three pivotal community sectors: Healthcare, local businesses, and the public library, fostering awareness, understanding, and empathy. As we strive to make O’Fallon and Shiloh truly dementia-friendly, the action team’s future endeavors will extend to encompass care partners, homecare services, and financial institutions, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic approach to enhancing the lives of those affected by dementia within our community.

Dementia Friendly O’Fallon/Shiloh Activities

The Dementia Friendly Community Action Team has been created from a group which has a long history of working in the two communities. There is already a Memory Café and Coffee with the Caregivers in the communities. For Dementia Friendly efforts, the action team will focus on healthcare, local businesses, and the public library. Work in these areas will include training and increased awareness. Plans are in place to expand the efforts beyond these sectors.
