The Dementia Friendly Eureka initiative establishes a collaborative effect spanning various sectors including local government, healthcare, financial institutions, community members and small businesses. Our collective missing is to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Through a comprehensive action plan, we aim to achieve this by focusing on three key pillars: community education, business awareness, and supportive care. Together, we strive to create a more compassionate and inclusive community where everyone feels supported and valued.

The Eureka Dementia Friendly Community Action Team represents a broad range of community members. The team is comprised of 15 people from local government, financial services, neighbors, community members, caregivers, healthcare, senior living facilities, libraries, faith communities, small businesses, community-based services, and emergency personnel. This initiative is receiving support and guidance from the Central Illinois Agency on Aging.
The Dementia Friendly Community Action Team has utilized a community needs assessment which included caregivers and those who interacted with people with dementia and/or caregivers. From this survey the team has created three main goals, which include community education, business awareness, and supportive care for people with dementia and their caregivers.
