Mt. Vernon

The Dementia Friendly Task Force represents a broad range of community members. The key members of the Task Force are comprised of people from Midland Area Agency on Aging, a faith-based community, the Alzheimer’s Association, senior programs, the local hospital, a social service organization, the sheriff’s department, the chamber of commerce, first responders, a transportation organization, the county health department, and a caregiver advisor. The task force plans to keep expanding as interest grows.

There is already a dementia support group offered in Mt Vernon. The task force engaged in a community assessment.  Several task force members have attended a Dementia Friends talk and many have been encouraged to sign-up online. Several task force members have also become a Dementia Champion with plans for more. Many have also participated in the Dementia Live training offered in their area.

The Task Force has plans to provide sector trainings and Dementia Friends talks to organizations in the community. They also plan to develop an annual community health and resource fair which will have a focus on dementia. They are also considering programing, such as a Memory Café, for families living with dementia.
