Mendota

Dementia Friendly Efforts

The Mendota Dementia Friendly Task Force represents an extremely broad range of community members, as evidenced by their 19 letters of support. The Task Force is comprised of people from first responders, the library, local government, clinics and hospitals, residential care, community based and support organizations, faith communities, banks/financial organizations, and local/state/national partners. Many of the task force members work with people who have dementia and will include their voice in the Dementia Friendly efforts. Also, nine people in the Mendota area have become a Dementia Champion.

The Mendota Dementia Friendly Task Force has been meeting for a year and have worked to assess the community needs through interviews, surveys and discussion. Throughout this process people with dementia and their caregivers have given constant input. From this process, the Dementia Friendly Community Task Force has developed several goals, which include;

•              ID cards for first responders,

•              A community-based dementia resource guide,

•              Sector improvement through the utilization of the DFA sector guides,

•              Community trainings for businesses, and

•              Dementia Friends talks by the trained champions.

The Mendota Dementia Friendly initiative has already developed a relationship with a local community foundation which will allow for donations and financial support. They also developed plans for how to assess the impact of their goals.
