The Dementia Friendly Task Force represents a range of community members. Led by the city of Berwyn, the key members of the Task Force are comprised of staff from local government, the Berwyn Public Library, the Berwyn Health Department, Police Department, Fire Department, AgeOptions, Solutions for Care, and the Pav YMCA. Members of the task force have direct contact with people with dementia and their caregivers. There are plans to have meetings with caregivers and people with dementia to obtain their insights.
They have already provided dementia specific educational material to the police and fire department and have provided emergency ID wristbands free of charge for residents. Also, members of the task force have become a Dementia Friend and Dementia Champion.
The Task Force has plans to establish a memory café, weekly bingo, arts/crafts classes, dance/exercise classes, weekly luncheons, a food pantry, and other social events. The city of Berwyn is about to open a new community center which will be an important location for the Dementia Friendly community activities. All dementia educational events for the community will have material in both English and Spanish to match the diversity of the community.
