The Latino Alzheimer’s Coalition For Advocacy, Research and Education (LA CARE) is a coalition to collaborate and work towards addressing the needs of Latino caregivers caring for family members with dementia. Currently, statistics show that Alzheimer’s affects the Latino community in relatively higher numbers than the general population, so LA CARE was created to connect those impacted by the disease to national and community-based resources curated by dementia professionals.
The organizations vetted and recommended by LA CARE cover a range of caregiving concerns including care options, legal and financial planning, and research opportunities. These resources are all easily available through the LA CARE website, which can be accessed in English and Spanish.
One incredibly useful resource available through the LA CARE website is a six-episode podcast series featuring experts on aging and dementia including the ICRN’s own Raj C. Shah, MD, and David X. Marquez, PhD. All episodes are presented in Spanish.
The six episodes, also available as watchable videos on the LA CARE YouTube, cover these topics:
- The Birth of LACARE- Project introduction.
- What is Alzheimer’s and Dementia?- Essential concepts.
- Caring for a Loved One- Practical and emotional aspects.
- Take Care of Yourself- The importance of self-care.
- Caring for a Loved One- Practical recommendations.
- Legal and Financial Planning- Guidance for caregivers.
LA CARE is presented by these partners: Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois Chicago, and Lorenzo’s House.
