Over time, it may be increasingly challenging for a person with Alzheimer’s disease to stay active. However, there are ways you can help:
- Start an activity — like gardening, baking, or household chores — and encourage them to participate with you. People with dementia may lack interest or initiative in starting an activity, but if others do the planning, they may be more likely to join in.
- Be realistic about how much activity can be done at one time. Several short “mini-workouts” may be better than a single long session.
- Take a walk together each day. Exercise is good for caregivers, too!
