Vascular dementia is the second most diagnosed form of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease. It can occur alone or alongside another form of dementia. The symptoms of vascular dementia can appear suddenly and may progress slowly over time. People with vascular dementia may experience problems with organization, attention, and problem-solving. Other signs may include:
- Misplacing items
- Difficulty reading and writing
- Trouble following instructions or learning new information
- Problems with language, such as finding the right word to use
- Poor judgment and loss of ability to perceive danger
