The Naperville Senior Task Force is the driving force for the Dementia Friendly Naperville Initiative. The Initiative has developed a large partnership with stakeholders from a variety of sectors. They include:
- Local government – Naperville city Council, Naperville Senior Task Force and Naperville Township
- Library – Naperville Public Library
- Recreation – Naperville Park District and Forest Preserve District of DuPage County
- Business – Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce
- First Responders – Naperville Police Department, Naperville Fire Department, Naperville Park District Police Department
- Assisted living and memory care facilities
- Caregiver support providers
- Social service agencies – AgeGuide and Metropolitan Family Services
- Health care – Edward Hospital, Linden Oaks Behavioral Health
- Legal and financial planning
- Transportation providers
- Adult day program providers
To date the Dementia Friendly Naperville accomplishments, include the following:
- Training for first responders, in-home service providers, and caregivers
- Community awareness on efforts to faith communities and through local media
- Online programs provided for both the person with dementia and for their caregivers
- Free face masks, gloves and sanitizer distributed
- Expanded program for home delivered meals
- Developed volunteer network to help with technology for seniors
- Began work on Dementia Friendly Naperville Resource Packet
Over the next 18 months the Dementia Friendly Naperville Initiative has created the following goals:
- Continue training for first responders, hospital, library and park district staff
- Continue online support for people with dementia and caregivers
- Develop business training
- Develop a “Pocket Pal” brochure of Dementia Friendly Naperville Resources
- Develop a social media campaign
- Offer in-person events at the library, and park district
